Beautiful Isan lukthung songs on this rare original Thai 7" from the '70's!

On Side A song 'Thai Dam Ramphan Pt.2' (ไทยดำรำพัน ภาค 2) and subtitles 'When Laos changed government' (ตอนลาวเปลี่ยนการปกครอง) sung by Wiset Rong (วิเศษ ร้อง) (an alias which translates as 'sings beautiful'), and composed by the famous Doi Inthanon (ดอยอินทนนท์). The title suggests this is a song from the Black Thai ethnic minority, a tribe that is found in Thailand and surrounding countries on mainland Southeast Asia. This record being from the 1970's, this songs is about the hardships that emerged in Laos after the communist Pathet Lao took over the reign of Laos in 1975. This not only had big consequences for the ethnic Lao people, but even more so for certain ethnic minorities like the H'Mong & Black Thai who were started to get treated as seceond class citizens, and were even prosecuted for their collaboration with the Americans during the Indochina-America war.

On Side B we find the winner of this 45: 'Hay Sao Phrela Rong' (หายเศร้าเพราะเหล้าโรง), which translates as 'Sadness disappeared because of alcohol'., sung by Atsawin Pinpetch (อัศวิน ปิ่นเพชร). It's a tragicomic lukthung song in the Isan language dedicated to the good and bad sides of alcohol consumption. Great horn arrangement, accompaniment on the Isan wooden xylophone called ponglang, and wonderful lyrics and melody, composed by Mr. Luenet (ช. ลือเนตร), make this a timeless cultural artefact of the Isan people, with broader appeal due to the excellent musical quality.
